The Cycling Union of Macedonia – Thrace, the Hellenic Cycling Federation, the Prefecture of Eastern Macedonia – Thrace, the Municipality of Xanthi and the Alter Bike Tours, would like to welcome you to the Balkan MTB Championships 2022, that are organized in the city of Xanthi.

The noble Lady of Thrace

Amphitheatrically built on the foot of Rodopi mountain chain, Xanthi is located in the crossroads of the Black Sea and the Aegean, Europe and Asia. Whether you are a history or tradition fan, a lover of nature, a food specialist wanting to indulge in delicious local specialties and eastern type sweets, or even an entertainment addict seeking to experience the city’s vibrant night life, the region of Xanthi will definitely satisfy even the most demanding ones amongst you.

Kosynthos River divides the city into the west part, where the old and the modern town are located, and the east part, the “Samakov district”, that boasts a rich natural environment. Both parts still preserve their traditional flair, mesmerizing visitors with their nobility and magnificence.

The cobbled narrow streets of the Old Town are decorated by gorgeous mansions, whose architectural style is a marvelous blend of local and ottoman architecture as well as Greek Neoclassicism architectural style. Together with the Byzantine churches and the picturesque squares, the city’s Old Town could be said to be an open museum, the glory of which remains untouched through the years.

The modern part of the city boasts a beautiful square with a Clock and the renovated tobacco warehouses including the famous “Π’’, on Kapnergaton str., which took its name from the shape of the 1890’s edifices. Don’t forget to visit the flea market with its distinctive local flavor taking places every Saturday at Zoagoras Square!

Accommodation and meals

For the Balkan Championships, the organizers will cover the accommodation for 2 nights (Friday 29 and Saturday 30 July) in 2 hotels in the city of Xanthi for a total of 17 persons per delegation (14 athletes 1 team manager and 2 team members).

In case of any additional reservation, please contact the organizing committee for prizes and availability.

For the Balkan Championships, the organizers will offer the following meals for a total of 17 persons per delegation (14 athletes, 1 team manager and 2 team members):

Saturday 30/7 Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Sunday 31/7 Breakfast

Meals’ locations places will be announced later, while breakfasts will be served at the hotels.

The organizer cannot cover any accommodation or meals for Masters Category.
Special prizes can be arranged for Masters Category riders.

Race class, categories, entry fee, registration

The races will be organized according to the UCI regulations.

Numbers of laps per category, will be announced on site by the commissaires panel.

UCI points scale will be applicable for the UCI C2 race categories.

UCI penalties scale will be the only applicable in the event.

UCI Prize Money will be applicable for the UCI C2 races.

UCI C2 races Entry Fee applicable for all C2 categories: 30 €
